Walnut Creek, Calif. (July 8, 2010) – HomeAid Northern California is pleased to announce it has received a $20,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation. These funds will be used to facilitate the development of the Shepherd’s Gate Life Center in Livermore that will support battered women and their children, and the next phase of the Bridge to Life Center in Fairfield, which will provide shelter for homeless families and individuals in Solano County.

Dave Sanson of DeNova Homes and 2010 HomeAid Board President states, “HomeAid is grateful for the support of the Wells Fargo Foundation. With the numbers of homeless families and children ever-increasing, we are needed now more than ever.”

The Shepherd’s Gate Life Center is the third project HomeAid has adopted for this organization. Says Shepherd’s Gate Executive Director, Steve McRee, “HomeAid has supported Shepherd’s Gate and its ministry for the last ten years. With this partnership, we can provide the necessary life-changing skills to get women and children back on their feet and not spend critical financial resources on construction. It is a true partnership that works.”

Of the Bridge to Life Center, Builder Captain John Ryan of Brookfield Homes says this, “When completed, this project will provide up to 200 homeless men, women and children at one time.. The Bridge to Life Center will be a model of the kind of place these residents deserve to live and thrive in.

This project will be the largest transitional shelter project in HomeAid Northern California’s ten year history. In this economy HomeAid is gratified for this contribution from the Wells Fargo Foundation to make this project a reality.”

    About Homeaid
HomeAid Northern California is a 501c(3) non-profit organization founded in 1999 as the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association of Northern California. One of the region's most active homeless agencies, HomeAid has built shelters for the transitionally homeless in nearly every county in the San Francisco Bay Area in collaboration with the homebuilding industry and its vendors, partners and suppliers. In addition to providing a safe, comfortable home, the shelters typically offer counseling and job training as core components of their programs.

HomeAid is currently building additions to the planned 34,000 sq. ft. Mission Solano Bridge to Life Center in Fairfield, CA, which currently has the capacity to house 122 residents. Once completed, the facility will house 162 residents, making it the second largest HomeAid shelter in the USA. Other projects in the works include construction of a new facility at Shepherd's Gate in Livermore, CA; renovation of the First Christian Church in downtown San Jose, CA to provide housing and job training through the Downtown Streets Team project; and renovation of a new Oakland, CA site for DreamCatcher, Alameda County's only emergency shelter for homeless teenagers. A complete list of current and completed shelters can be found here.
