Walnut Creek, Calif. (January 05, 2011) – HomeAid Northern California announced Bruce E. Ring, Principal and former Chairman at Morgan Miller Blair, as the 2011 Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ring is the first non-builder to serve as the Board of Director’s top position.
Involved in HomeAid Northern California since its inception in 1999, Ring has served on the Board since 2006 and has been actively involved in its fundraising activities and providing pro bono legal assistance to the organization.
Ring is a 30 year real estate attorney with Morgan Miller, representing home building companies in all aspects of single and multi-family residential developments, and commercial developers in the development of office and industrial buildings and shopping centers. He also represents institutional and private lenders in commercial and real estate lending transactions. His practice includes the structuring, documentation and negotiation of real estate transactions, including acquisition, sale, exchange, development and redevelopment; office, industrial and retail leasing; construction and permanent financing; and joint ventures.
The value and impact HomeAid Northern California has had was especially evident at an event held at the conclusion of the drive on November 17th, during which two residents of the Mission Solano shelter moved volunteers to tears with stories of how the program saved their lives.
“I am honored to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for HomeAid Northern California and to continue the great work done by the staff, Board of Directors and previous Chairs, most recently Dave Sanson. I’m looking forward to working with the Board and staff to make 2011 another great year for the organization,” said Ring. “Now more than ever people are finding themselves suddenly homeless, which makes HomeAid’s mission of building dignified transitional housing where temporarily homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives even more important.”
About Homeaid
HomeAid Northern California is a 501c(3) non-profit organization founded in 1999 as the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association of Northern California. One of the region's most active homeless agencies, HomeAid has built shelters for the transitionally homeless in nearly every county in the San Francisco Bay Area in collaboration with the homebuilding industry and its vendors, partners and suppliers. In addition to providing a safe, comfortable home, the shelters typically offer counseling and job training as core components of their programs.
HomeAid is currently building additions to the planned 34,000 sq. ft. Mission Solano Bridge to Life Center in Fairfield, CA, which currently has the capacity to house 122 residents. Once completed, the facility will house 162 residents, making it the second largest HomeAid shelter in the USA. Other projects in the works include construction of a new facility at Shepherd's Gate in Livermore, CA; renovation of the First Christian Church in downtown San Jose, CA to provide housing and job training through the Downtown Streets Team project; and renovation of a new Oakland, CA site for DreamCatcher, Alameda County's only emergency shelter for homeless teenagers. A complete list of current and completed shelters can be found here.
