HomeAid Partners with embARC High School Design Academy at UC Berkeley

True to UC Berkeley’s public mission, their embARC High School program embraces civic responsibility by partnering with a local community organizations each summer to design a community improvement project. This year students will have a chance to partner with HomeAid Northern California on our micro-home build in Walnut Creek processed with Firm Foundation Community Housing and constructed by Pulte Group for local care provider Hope Solutions.

Student participants in the embARC program learn skills in the architectural design studios, digital and fabrication workshops, and lectures to make an impact on community projects. The students have built a variety of projects as part of an intensive, four week design program for high school students who are interested in architecture, urban design, and planning.  Past Community Build projects have tackled food insecurity, urban agriculture, and urban ecology. With local nonprofits as clients, students get to design and fabricate essential infrastructure for those that do not otherwise have access to design and build services.

HomeAid Executive Director Crisand Giles is grateful for the opportunity to talk with students on career opportunities available in construction and design, and about how HomeAid partners with Bay Area Home Builders to give back to our local communities.  The student build will be held at our Hope Village project site on Thursday, July 25th 2024.

If you are interested in getting involved in a HomeAid project or want to learn more, please contact Crisand Giles for more information.
