Additional State Budget Cuts Include $1.2 billion in Affordable and Homeless Housing Funding

Governor Gavin Newsom’s updated 2024-2025 budget cuts include a plan that removes $1.2 billion from programs aimed at creating affordable housing and lifting people from homelessness.  This change would roll back significant investments in affordable housing funding as well as funding delays for housing programs serving families, seniors and people with disabilities.

HomeAid Northern California joins a coalition of housing advocates and politicians that are calling on the Governor to take the cuts to affordable and homeless housing off the block as the state looks for ways to deal with its budget crisis.  The initial state budget expected a $58 billion deficit in January, but since then the office’s deficit projection has grown to  $73 billion, signaling that further cuts will likely be added to the May budget update.
